Orlando Family Stage’s Young Designers in the Spotlight program features original design work created by theatre students from schools throughout Central Florida. The program encourages young people to connect with our productions and stories through the creative process of design. Students are invited to develop unique artistic interpretations inspired by a current production, with their work displayed in our lobby for audiences to enjoy.

This year, Orlando Family Stage partnered with the Theatre Department at Montverde Academy. Students in the Stagecraft class read the script for The Best Halloween Ever and used the story as inspiration to design an element of the production or explore an aspect of the creative process in preparation for the show.

Students were invited to design sets, costumes, props, lighting, and even an actor’s book—imagining themselves as members of a professional production team preparing to bring the story to life. The project encouraged creativity, collaboration, and independent decision-making while giving students hands-on experience transforming the words and ideas of a script into visual concepts, artistic choices, and theatrical designs.

This project was conducted under the supervision of Daniela Monzon Villegas, Conservatory Voice Instructor/Strings, Vocal, Piano Department Head, and Michael Citrinite, Theatre Technical Director.

Please enjoy these original designs created by our participating students!
