Junie B.’s Costume Parade
In the play, Junie B. is worried about spooky Halloween costumes. Let kids make their own “scary” costumes but with a fun and friendly twist. First, create your own Mask! Then pull out clothes, sheets, towels, paper, tissues, or random objects to inspire their creativity. Once they are dressed up, have a mini costume parade walking around the room or house. Play some music and let them act out these scary characters and use silly voices to say funny lines like, “Boo! And I Mean It!”
Homemade Carnival Games
Junie B. wants to play all of the carnival games! You can create your own carnival games using objects around the house. Find some cups or cans to bowl down. Bob for apples in a large bucket. Toss bean bags into containers at various distances. Stack some plastic cups and try to squirt them down with a water gun. You can be as elaborate or as simple as you like! Check out these blogs for examples here and here.
Creative Cake Recipes
Juine B. wins a Fruitcake in the carnival Cakewalk event. That Fruitcake was a mix of lots of different fruits and not very tasty. Create your own mixed up cake recipes using this worksheet. Make some cake recipes that are realistic or some cake recipes that are wild and creative. Feeling brave? Add your ingredients to a real life cake and see how it tastes!
Bat Snack Activity
Junie B. Jones is so scared of Halloween, she imagines bats attacking her! Help Junie B. face her fears by making some not scary at all adorable bat snacks! Use Oreos to piece together the cutest bats that are not scary AT ALL! Give them faces with edible eyes, or even frosting and chocolate chips! This activity not only provides a tasty treat but also helps kids develop fine motor skills through assembling and decorating their bat snacks while enjoying a fun Halloween snack!
