You were caught getting into mischief by none other than Professor Snape, himself. Now you are serving detention with Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest. Oh, do not worry about all the stories you have been told; worry about the ones you have not! Strange and fantastical beasts roam these woods at night. Complete your duties and get out before dawn. We would hate for another group of students go missing…
This program is designed for all students—whether you dream of performing onstage, simply want a fun way to make new friends, or both! This class is perfect for students who want to try something new, get creative, and have a blast—whether it is their first theatre class or their fiftieth!
What You Will Learn
- The basics of playwriting and character development as you create original scenes and monologues
- Learn to build and operate puppets such as; moving mouth, rod, blacklight, and/or mask
- To create and work with environmental, scenic, or lighting elements that support the puppetry
- Vocabulary and skills related to the ‘actor toolbox’; body, voice, imagination, and concentration
What to Expect
- A combination of theatre games, acting exercises, music, movement, devising, and building
- Students build a creature of the forest puppet, paint set pieces, and stage scenes with their puppet
- Engaging, interactive classes led by experienced teaching artists
- Supportive and inclusive environment designed for students to connect with each other
- Opportunities to share ideas and receive personalized feedback
What to Bring
- Students should bring a water bottle and a non-perishable lunch each day. Please ensure all items are nut-free.
- All necessary class materials are provided
Extended Care
- Extended Care is available Monday-Friday, 7:30am-9am and 2pm-5:30pm for $50 per week
Presentation Day
- Final presentations are held on the last day of class, giving students the opportunity to showcase what they learned and created throughout the program. Family and friends are invited to attend. Presentation times are announced on Monday of your camp week.
