So you want to be a hero, kid? Join Hercules and Pegasus to design your way to Mount Olympus and become a true hero! Using cardboard and craft supplies, construct a world fit for the Greek gods. Then create your own hero character, using storytelling and building challenges, to “Go the Distance”!
This program is designed for all students, whether you dream of performing onstage, simply want a fun way to make new friends, or both! From first-timers to seasoned performers, everyone is welcome to try something new, get creative, and have a blast.
What You Will Learn
- How to construct an imaginative costume, prop, or set piece out of cardboard and use it to tell a story
- Become a character and play pretend with and in front of others
- How to develop and tell a story as an ensemble through dramatic play
- Vocabulary and skills related to the ‘actor toolbox’; body, voice, imagination, and concentration
- How to share opinions about a story with classmates
What to Expect
- Engaging, interactive classes led by experienced teaching artists
- A supportive and inclusive environment designed for students to connect with each other
- Creative play and theatre games that explore the world, characters, and details of the class theme
- Opportunities to share ideas and receive personalized feedback
What to Bring
- Students should bring a water bottle, a non-perishable lunch, and a snack each day. Please ensure all items are nut-free.
- Students will be creating and building throughout the week, which may include painting. Please wear clothing that can get dirty, or bring a paint smock or oversized t-shirt to camp each day.
Extended Care
- Extended Care is available Monday-Friday, 7:30am-9am and 4pm-5:30pm for $50 per week
Presentation Day
- Final presentations are held on the last day of class, giving students the opportunity to showcase what they learned throughout the program. Family and friends are invited to attend, Friday, March 19, 2:30pm.
