Dragons do not hatch themselves; you have to build them! Using puppetry, character creation, and a touch of Viking know-how, students bring fantastical creatures to life from snout to tail. Whether your dragon is fierce, fluffy, or a little bit fabulous, discover the magic of storytelling through movement, voice, and design.

 This program is designed for all students—whether you dream of performing onstage, simply want a fun way to make new friends, or both! This class is perfect for students who want to try something new, get creative, and have a blast—whether it is their first theatre class or their fiftieth!

What You Will Learn

  • Learn to build and operate puppets such as; moving mouth, rod, blacklight, and/or mask
  • To create and work with environmental, scenic, or lighting elements that support the puppetry
  • Vocabulary and skills related to the ‘actor toolbox’; body, voice, imagination, and concentration

What to Expect 

  • A combination of theatre games, acting exercises, movement, and building
  • Students build puppets, paint set pieces, and stage scenes with their puppets
  • Engaging, interactive classes led by experienced teaching artists
  • Supportive and inclusive environment designed for students to connect with each other
  • Opportunities to share ideas and receive personalized feedback

What to Bring

  • Students should bring a water bottle and a nut-free snack each day
  • All necessary class materials are provided

Presentation Day

  • Final presentations are held on the last day of class, giving students the opportunity to showcase what they learned and created throughout the program. Family and friends are invited to attend Wednesday, December 17, 11:30am.
