Belladonna: The Musical is an original work set to make its world debut at Orlando Family Stage. It is an innovative piece with an all-female cast that tells the true story of Giulia Tofana, an infamous peddler of an undetectable poison to abused wives in order to kill their husbands in 17th-century Italy. In two acts and an hour-and-a-half, it explores the complex relationships between Giulia, her stepdaughter, and her late mother as they all participate in the clandestine poisoning business. Other characters, such as a new proposed client and a discerning socialite, contribute to the narrative, delving into themes of domestic violence, female empowerment, and the profound consequences of Giulia’s actions.
