Giving Tuesday 2017

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, fueled by the power of collaboration and goodwill.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

The #GivingTuesday website states that in 2016, more than 1.6 million gifts were made, which raised more than $177 million. On November 28, join the movement and give – whether it’s some of your time, a donation, gift or the power of your voice in your local community.

Here at Orlando REP, all of these various ways of giving can help Create Moments That Matter, like this special experience Dawn and her family had attending Disney’s Newsies The Musical. Dawn shared with us:

“I cannot begin to explain the emotions of sitting in a theatre with your child and being able to glance at them and know what they saw — no words had to be spoken. My son, who loves to antagonize his sister, was leaning over to her and making comments with her throughout the show tonight. They were communicating about what was happening, critiquing it together. He’s marching in band in his first year of high school with two instruments under his belt and two more in the works. This kid, who we thought would never make real friends, has changed. And he is learning what he can about social skills from his band hours.

To anyone who wants to say having the arts in schools doesn’t make a significant difference to kids on the spectrum – come sit and chat with me. The arts are not as important as sports? Let’s talk. The arts community here may be small, but we all collectively speak to each other in a global language that goes way beyond geographical location. Newsies was fantastic, but the experience was so much more. Thank you to those that made this magical experience happen. My heart is full.”
