Schools Out: Robot Repair Shop

Now hiring: Junior Robot Engineers! The city’s busiest repair shop needs creative thinkers to design, build, and test the next generation of amazing machines. Build cardboard robots, invent clever upgrades, and tackle unexpected mechanical mishaps as you bring your creations to life. No two robots are alike and neither are their problems. Just remember to tighten the last bolt!

What You Will Learn

• How to construct an imaginative costume, prop, or set piece out of cardboard and use it to tell a story
• How to create a character and perform with and in front of others 
• Vocabulary and skills related to the ‘actor toolbox’; body, voice, imagination, and concentration
• How to create a story with a clear beginning, middle, and end
• How to share opinions about a story with classmates

What to Expect 

• Students utilize cardboard boxes to create original props and environments
• Engaging, interactive classes led by experienced teaching artists
• A supportive and inclusive environment designed for students to connect with each other
• Creative play and theatre games that explore the world, characters, and details of the class theme
• Opportunities to share ideas and receive personalized feedback

What to Bring

• Students should bring a water bottle, a non-perishable lunch, AND a snack. Please ensure all items are nut-free. 
• Students will be creating and building throughout the day, which may include painting. Please wear clothing that can get dirty, or bring a paint smock or oversized t-shirt to class.
