Take to the skies with your very own dragon brought to life through shadow and light! In this hands-on puppetry adventure, students build confidence, patience, and creative problem-solving as they design their own dragons and learn to move, voice, and animate them. Alongside Toothless and the dragon riders of Berk, discover how imagination and a little teamwork can make any story soar.
This program is designed for all students—whether you dream of performing onstage, simply want a fun way to make new friends, or both! This class is perfect for students who want to try something new, get creative, and have a blast—whether it is their first theatre class or their fiftieth!
What You Will Learn
- To build and operate shadow puppets
- How to create a character and perform with and in front of others
- To develop and work with environmental, scenic, or lighting elements that support the puppetry
- Vocabulary and skills related to the ‘actor toolbox’; body, voice, imagination, and concentration
What to Expect
- Students build puppets, paint set pieces, and stage scenes with their puppets set to music
- A combination of rehearsals, theatre games, and acting exercises
- Engaging, interactive classes led by experienced teaching artists
- Supportive and inclusive environment designed for students to connect with each other
- Opportunities to share ideas and receive personalized feedback
What to Bring
- Students should bring a water bottle and a non-perishable lunch each day. Please ensure all items are nut-free.
- All necessary class materials are provided
- Students are invited to participate in Wacky Wednesday each week! This is an optional opportunity to dress up in accordance with a class theme, which is decided upon and shared at the beginning of the week.
Extended Care
- Extended Care is available Monday-Friday, 7:30am-9am and 2pm-5:30pm for $60 per week
Presentation Day
- Final presentations are held on the last day of class, giving students the opportunity to showcase what they learned and created throughout the program. Family and friends are invited to attend. Presentation times are announced on Monday of your camp week.
