The Finest in Family Theater
The dogs in P.D. Eastman’s classic story are always moving: racing in cars, leaping into trees, balancing hats, and finally gathering for one unforgettable party. Their world is colorful, playful, and full of possibility.
In many ways, it’s a world that feels a lot like ours at Orlando Family Stage.
For a century, Orlando Family Stage has been “on the go.” Since 1926, we’ve moved through new names and new homes, but our mission has remained steady: empowering young people to be brave and empathetic by creating quality theatrical experiences. What started as a small, scrappy company has grown into one of the nation’s largest theatres for young audiences — welcoming tens of thousands of children, families, and educators every year.
Like the story’s adventurous dogs, we’ve been racing forward, discovering new possibilities for what theatre can mean to our community. From launching arts-based learning programs in classrooms, to developing original works, to building a youth academy that now serves over a thousand students each year, our journey has been filled with motion, momentum, and growth.
Choosing Go, Dog. Go! | ¡Ve Perro, Ve! as the first production in our Centennial Season wasn’t an accident. The story’s spirit of movement and discovery echoes our own history. Its joyful celebration of togetherness mirrors the way we’ve gathered families for generations. And this season’s bilingual adaptation speaks to the beautifully diverse audience we serve today.
“Launching our 100th year with a story as timeless and beloved as Go, Dog. Go! feels just right,” says Artistic Director Jeffrey M. Revels. “It’s playful, it’s colorful, it’s musical, and it shows how we can take a classic story and make it reflect our community right now.”
Adapted by Allison Gregory and Steven Dietz, with music by Michael Koerner and translation by Ana Maria Campoy, Go, Dog. Go! | ¡Ve Perro, Ve! is a feast for the senses. Zipping cars, silly hats, rhythmic movement, and a spectacular dog party on stage bring the book’s joyful pages to life in ways that feel both nostalgic and brand new.
As part of our Centennial Celebration, each production this season highlights a theme drawn from our history. With Go, Dog. Go! we begin with 100 Years of Adventure, because adventure is at the heart of everything we’ve done.
It was an adventure to start a theatre company in 1926, when Orlando was still a small but growing city surrounded by citrus groves and just beginning to imagine its future. It was an adventure to evolve as Orlando transformed into an international destination, adapting our work to serve families in a changing community. And it’s an adventure today as we continue to tell stories that meet children where they are and prepare them for the world ahead.
Just as the story ends with all the dogs gathering in celebration, our centennial is our chance to gather as artists, families, students, alumni, and community partners, for the biggest party in our history. Go, Dog. Go! sets the tone: playful, welcoming, a little silly, and full of heart.
We’ve been on the go for 100 years. Now, we invite you to join the adventure.
